Steelo Bass & JMG Black Air Forces
I always try to stay connected to the local music scene, so I was thrilled when Steelo Bass and JMG reached out to me about designing a flyer for their upcoming show, “Black Air Forces.” The title immediately sparked some creative ideas in my mind. I thought it would be fun to take a literal approach to the concept since “Black Air Forces” refers to those iconic shoes that so many rappers rock during their performances.
I envisioned the two headliners emerging right out of a shoebox, which I felt would give the event a unique vibe. For the supporting artists, I decided to label their names on the outside of the shoebox, kind of like a stylish label you’d expect to see on a real shoe box. I also included the age limit on the opposite side, where you’d usually see the shoe size.
When it came to the title, I chose a clean sans-serif typeface that I repeated throughout the flyer, letting it gradually fade down the page for a cool effect. To give the flyer a bit of character, I added some folded paper texture to make it look worn and well-loved. I’m really excited about how it all came together!
